Located in downtown Lisbon, the new BLACK MOON is part of MYTHIC SANA Downtown Suites, although it operates with its own identity and management. With a capacity of 32 seats, including the dining room and bar, the venue offers a continuous dining and wine experience throughout the day, from breakfast until the early hours of the morning.
The cuisine is helmed by Luís Ortiz, a Mexican chef born in Guadalajara who trained in the United States and Switzerland and has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants. At BLACK MOON, Ortiz presents a menu inspired by Mexican cuisine blended with local techniques and ingredients, drawn from personal memories and a signature approach. “Cooking is storytelling—a precise balance between heritage, creativity, and passion,” says the chef, whose cuisine seeks to transform simple ingredients into memorable experiences.
The menu takes diners through different stages of the meal. Among the appetizers are offerings such as oysters from Alvor or the Sado River, aged cuttlefish, French fries with caviar, and duck croquettes. Standout starters include lily root in ash, tuna belly, and Australian Wagyu chorizo with truffle-infused potato crisps. Main courses include options such as red mullet with onion purée, aged duck, and fried chicken with Korean sauce. Desserts include pau santo ice cream and “grandma’s flan,” created as a tribute to the chef’s family memories.
The experience is complemented by a wine list focused on Portuguese producers and a Champagne Bar featuring signature cuvées, available by the glass or by the bottle. Wine pairings and service are overseen by Pedro Caldas, Gastrobar Manager and Head Sommelier at MYTHIC SANA, who believes that “every wine has a story, and every story deserves the perfect pairing.” The bar is run by Hugo Carvalho, Bar Manager and Mixologist, for whom “every cocktail tells a story” and the service should transform moments into memories.
BLACK MOON is open continuously starting at noon, with a greater focus on snacks and light dishes in the afternoon. The day begins with the Signature Mythic Breakfast, a semi-à-la-carte breakfast priced at 45 euros. In the evening, the atmosphere becomes more intimate, especially between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m., a time dedicated to desserts and cocktails.
The space’s design combines light-colored marble, gold accents, and the black that gives it its name, with a soundscape that evolves throughout the day, from jazz and bossa nova to nighttime downtempo. Positioned as a contemporary urban gastrobar, BLACK MOON aims to establish itself as a new gastronomic hotspot in the center of Lisbon.
